Crude Benzol is not a single pure compound but a mixture of several aromatic hydrocarbons. The major components typically include benzene, toluene, xylene (BTX), and small amounts of other compounds like naphthalene, thiophene, and sulfur-containing impurities.
It is produced when coal is heated in the absence of air (destructive distillation), generating coke oven gas. The condensable aromatic fraction recovered from this gas is called crude benzol.
This material is further refined (fractionated) to obtain high-purity aromatic chemicals used in the petrochemical and chemical industries.
