About Bio Diesel Fuel

Biodiesel fuel is a renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional petroleum diesel. It is produced from natural resources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, recycled cooking oils, and algae oils through a chemical process called transesterification. Biodiesel can be used in diesel engines with little or no modification and is widely adopted in transportation, agriculture, construction, marine, and industrial sectors.

Biodiesel is commonly blended with petroleum diesel in different ratios:

  • B5 = 5% biodiesel + 95% diesel
  • B20 = 20% biodiesel + 80% diesel
  • B100 = 100% pure biodiesel

The use of biodiesel helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and supports sustainable energy development.

Production Process of Biodiesel

Biodiesel is produced using a process called transesterification. In this process, vegetable oils or fats react with alcohol (usually methanol) in the presence of a catalyst such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.

Main Steps

  1. Collection of raw oil or fat
  2. Filtration and purification
  3. Heating and mixing with alcohol
  4. Chemical reaction with catalyst
  5. Separation of biodiesel and glycerin
  6. Washing and purification
  7. Final quality testing and storage

The final product is biodiesel fuel, while glycerin is obtained as a valuable by-product used in cosmetics, soaps, and pharmaceuticals.
